July: Do Something Relaxing Month
What Does “Relax” Mean?
To relax means to let go of tension—both physical and mental—and allow yourself to rest, breathe, and simply be. It’s a state of calm where your body can slow down, and your mind can unwind from stress, demands, and constant activity.
Why Should We Relax?
In our fast-paced world, we’re often expected to be “on” all the time—working, helping others, solving problems. But if we don’t slow down and take time to relax, we risk burning out. Relaxation isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity for our overall well-being. It’s how we refuel.
Benefits of Relaxing:
• Reduces stress and anxiety.
Relaxation helps calm your nervous system and lower cortisol levels.
• Improves sleep.
When you’re relaxed, your body finds it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.
• Boosts mood and emotional health.
Relaxing activities help release feel-good chemicals like serotonin and endorphins.
• Increases focus and productivity.
A relaxed mind thinks more clearly and creatively.
• Supports heart health and lowers blood pressure.
Chronic stress can harm the heart—relaxation helps counteract that.
• Relieves muscle tension and chronic pain.
Gentle rest gives your body time to repair and release tightness.
• Strengthens immune function.
When you’re calm, your body can better defend itself from illness.
7 Simple Ways to Relax This July:
1. Take a nature walk.
Being outdoors—among trees, water, or sunlight—naturally soothes the mind.
2. Listen to calming music or nature sounds.
Soft sounds can help your mind drift away from worry.
3. Practice deep breathing or meditation.
Even 5 minutes a day can make a big difference.
4. Read a book just for pleasure.
Let yourself escape into a story without pressure to “learn” or “do.”
5. Unplug from devices for a while.
Give your brain a break from screens, notifications, and news.
6. Take a warm bath or shower.
Warm water relaxes muscles and signals your body to wind down.
7. Do something creative—just for fun.
Drawing, painting, knitting, or journaling can be meditative and freeing.
