December: Do Something Spiritual Month
Short Story: “The Quiet Light”
It was the first snow of December when Evelyn lit the candle.
She did it every year on the same night—December 1st. She placed it in the window of her tiny apartment, not for decoration, but for reflection.
Her granddaughter, Zoey, was visiting from college. She looked at the candle curiously.
“Grandma, is that for a holiday or something?”
Evelyn smiled softly. “It’s for me. I light it to remember all I’ve come through this year—and to reconnect with what matters.”
Zoey sat beside her. “That sounds… peaceful. I’m always so busy, I don’t think I’ve stopped to just be in months.”
“Spiritual doesn’t have to mean religious,” Evelyn said, handing her another candle. “It just means tuning in—to yourself, to the stillness, to something greater.”
They sat in silence, the two candles flickering quietly. The snow fell outside, and the room felt warm—not just from the heater, but from something deeper.
That night, Zoey didn’t scroll. She didn’t stress.
She breathed. Reflected. Listened.
For the first time in a long time, she felt a kind of peace she couldn’t explain.
What Does “Spiritual” Mean?
Spiritual means relating to the deep sense of connection, purpose, and meaning in life. It’s about nurturing your inner self, reflecting on what matters, and experiencing a connection with something greater—whether that’s nature, community, God, or your own soul.
Being spiritual doesn’t always mean being religious. It means seeking truth, peace, and alignment within yourself and the world around you.
7 Spiritual Things to Do This December
1. Light a candle with intention.
Use the flame to reflect, remember, or release something from your year.
2. Practice stillness or meditation.
Take 5–10 minutes to sit quietly, focus on your breath, and simply be.
3. Write in a gratitude or reflection journal.
Capture moments, people, or lessons that touched your soul this year.
4. Spend time in nature.
Walk among trees, sit near water, or watch the stars—let nature remind you of wonder.
5. Do yoga or breathwork.
Move or breathe with awareness to connect your body, mind, and spirit.
6. Read something sacred or uplifting.
Whether it’s scripture, poetry, or spiritual teachings, feed your inner world.
7. Forgive someone—or yourself.
Release a burden you’ve been carrying. Forgiveness is deeply spiritual and freeing.
