September Is “Do Something Healthy” Month
Short Story: “A New Leaf in September”
Camille had never been a “health nut.” She loved sweet tea, late-night snacks, and staying up too late scrolling through videos. But when her little brother Marcus challenged her to join him for “Do Something Healthy Month,” she rolled her eyes—then said yes.
“Just one healthy thing a day,” Marcus said, tossing her a shiny green apple. “For mind, body, and spirit.”
“An apple a day, huh?” Camille laughed, taking a bite. “Fine. I’ll try it for a week.”
But one week turned into two. Then the month.
She started walking after dinner instead of watching TV. She swapped soda for water. She started reading poetry before bed instead of doom-scrolling. And one magical night—she was in bed before midnight.
Halfway through September, Camille looked in the mirror and blinked. “I look… rested.”
Marcus noticed too. “You’re even nicer when you sleep,” he teased.
She tossed a pillow at him, smiling. “I feel clearer. Lighter. Like I’m actually in my own skin again.”
“Healthy looks good on you,” he said.
And for once, Camille didn’t just hear it—she believed it.
What Does “Healthy” Mean?
Healthy means being in a state of physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It’s not just the absence of illness—it’s about making choices that strengthen your body, sharpen your mind, and soothe your spirit. Being healthy is a balance—eating well, staying active, resting, and caring for your emotional needs too.
7 Healthy Things to Do This September
1. Nourish your mind:
Read something inspiring. Limit screen time. Practice daily gratitude journaling.
2. Eat more whole foods:
Fill your plate with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Ditch the processed snacks for something colorful and fresh.
3. Move your body:
Whether it’s walking, stretching, dancing, or biking—just move! Even 20 minutes counts.
4. Drink plenty of water:
Aim for 6–8 cups a day. Water supports digestion, energy, skin, and mental clarity.
5. Get 7–9 hours of sleep each night:
Sleep restores your brain, repairs your body, and balances your mood.
6. Feed your spirit:
Meditate, pray, or spend time in nature. Listen to calming music or reflect in silence.
7. Connect with people you love:
Call a friend. Share a meal. Laugh. Healthy relationships are vital for emotional well-being.
